Spill The Beans

Alison and Richard Wood have lived in Dunkeld for 12 years, having moved to the area to open their bed and breakfast business.  After four years running their very busy B&B, they decided the time was right for a change of direction, so they sold up and opened a children’s clothing store in High Street, Dunkeld.

Seven successful years later they reviewed their work/life balance, decided to take a break from business, leased out the shop and took 18 months off.  Richard started his training and took part in the Caledonian Challenge, walking 54 miles in 24 hours, raising £4,000 in aid of the Scott Foundation Trust.  Both he and Alison had time to focus on their football coaching and both gained a Level 3 Coaching Certificate.  It was a real change in pace.

Following the recent birth of their first grandchild, they decided it was time to get back to work, and so ‘Spill the Beans’ opened for business.  With seating for 46 covers, the café sits nestled amongst the little houses of Dunkeld, on the approach to Dunkeld Cathedral.  “It is in an ideal location for visitors,” said Richard.  “It has a very fresh contemporary feel, is open 7 days from 9.30am to 5pm, serving light lunches, homemade soup and a substantial selection of homemade cakes.”

A speciality of the café are the Fairtrade, organic Suki Teas, sourced from around the world.  Wonderful aromas fill the café when they are being served.  Their coffee is all Fairtrade organic and Rainforest Alliance coffee and the beans are specially roasted for Spill the Beans.

Richard reported: “Since we opened, our customers have been telling us how much they enjoyed their visit to a great retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the busy main street.  Our motto is: ‘if you were happy with your experience tell your friends, if you were unhappy, then please tell us’.”
