Windfarm: Local Business Opportunities
25.01.10
Work on the Griffin Wind Farm, located just south of Aberfeldy, is expected to begin this summer.
The developers, SSE Renewables (a division of Perth-based Scottish and Southern Energy) are keen to involve as many local businesses as possible during construction.
To help maximise local opportunity, SSE Renewables are holding two local business ‘register’ days, where local businesses can meet with the developers, learn more about the project and register their company details.
The Principal Contractor (once appointed) will have the register passed to them in the hope that they can utilise as many of the local businesses as possible.
Noel Cummins, Community Liaison Officer for the Griffin project, told comment: “SSE Renewables wants to utilise local resources as much as possible during the construction of the Wind Farm. These two ‘register’ days we’re holding are an ideal way for us to meet local businesses who are interested in the opportunities that the Griffin project might provide.”
Seeking Support Services
Businesses not obviously linked to the construction industry should also consider registering. As Noel explained: “It’s important to get the widest range of local businesses registered, as there are likely to be opportunities for those not directly involved in construction. We would also like to include businesses that provide support services, such as accommodation providers or caterers.”
Those interested can meet the developers (and register their business) on Monday the 15 February at the Locus Breadalbane, Aberfeldy or on Thursday the 18 February at the Birnam Arts and Conference Centre, near Dunkeld. Both will run from 12pm until 8pm.
