Dedication of Pitlochry Community Hospital
On Saturday 8 March the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, MSP John Swinney, attended the Service of Blessing and Dedication at Pitlochry Community Hospital and later toured the new facility.
Speaking afterwards he said: “I was delighted to attend and to see at first hand the excellent facility that has been developed for the people of Highland Perthshire. It has been a sometimes tricky path to secure the new facility but it is, without doubt, a world class addition to public services in the area.
“Over the last few years, I have had the privilege of working with the Pitlochry GPs, NHS Tayside, Perth and Kinross Council, the Scottish Ambulance Service, Balhousie Care and the Church of Scotland to ensure an integrated community facility would be created and we have now realised that vision."
He continued: “The people of Highland Perthshire will now have on one site an expanded GP practice, a new community hospital with extended services, the Council social work staff, the ambulance service and a new care home that will mean local people do not have to leave the area for their care needs.
"This will make such a difference to joining up services for individuals which is a key objective of our new Government. There are few parts of the country with a facility of such excellent potential.
“I pay warm tribute to everyone who has made this possible, including the dedicated staff, the Friends of the Irvine Memorial Hospital and the retired Chair of NHS Tayside, Peter Bates, who gave such commitment to make this happen.
“This is a great day for Highland Perthshire when our dreams of new, innovative and integrated health and care facilities have become a reality.”
