Herb Growing Workshops for Beginners

More and more people are eager to grow and use their own herbs and food from the garden. Some are motivated by supermarket fatigue and an urge to see fast food slow right down.

Many recognise that we will be healthier - both from the fresh, home-grown produce and the exercise, fresh air and relaxation gained in wresting it away from the weather and largely invertebrate competitors.

Home grown and local also means less of that much talked about and increasingly grubby carbon footprint. And, of course, it means better quality food for (usually) less capital outlay, too!

Two Half-Day Workshops

All good reasons - but how to get started? Margaret Lear (Plants with Purpose) and Cath McGregor (Heart of Scotland Herb Society), a redoubtable Double Act with best-not-mentioned years of experience with herbs and delivering talks and workshops between them, have the answer:Two half-day workshops in April on “Beginning with Herbs” will help you start and set you on the right road, whether your motive is health, sustainability, saving money or having fun!

The Programme

For the gardener, the morning workshop will introduce the range of herbs they might like to grow, their properties, potential and pitfalls. They’ll find the best ways to start, increase and harvest them. They’ll have practical sessions with real plant material – and get to take home their own cuttings! They will receive all that they need to grow and keep herbs successfully, with advice tailored to their own garden needs.

In the afternoon, they will learn how to make the best use of their herbs, with some basic and off-beat ideas for cooking and eating, practical sessions on domestic and cosmetic uses and lots of opportunity to exchange ideas, recipes and gain further information.
