Aberfeldy Community Council Meeting 3 February: Voting Outcome

04.02.10

Present: 157 members of public; Six members of the Communty Council; C’llr Lyall; three representatives of the Birks Hydro development interest; two from Sainsbury’s interest in Pitlochry; Noel Cummins (SSE/Griffin Windfarm).
The voting on the hydro scheme proposals showed:

  • *  Of the Community Council - five members were against (including the Chair), one was in favour. This is now the community council’s current official position. One member was in favour of a scheme if there was a better overall package available, but he was against the proposal as it stands.
  • *  Of the people from Aberfeldy - 22 were in favour (27%); 59 were against. (73%) This is almost the same as the outcome from the community council’s previously conducted poll in the town - ie 25:75.
    *  Of the people outwith Aberfeldy - 31 were in favour (91%); 3 were against (9%)

  • In total: 53 were in favour, (46%), 62 against. (54%).
  • Three people were undecided, and a small number chose not to make their views known.

Postscript

At 11pm, with the snow falling steadily outside, there were twenty five people having a drink in the Black Watch pub. Twenty four of them had just come from the meeting in the Town Hall, and the debate went on until after closing time.
