Christian Aid in the Locality £2,391 is the amazing total that has been raised so far this year for the worldwide work of Christian Aid in Aberfeldy, Weem and the surrounding area. The thrift shop from 12 to 17 May at which more than 30 people took turns to serve, brought in £997. The collection at the special Christian Aid service at the Aberfeldy Church Centre on Sunday 11 May raised £213. Sunday Club at Aberfeldy Church of Scotland collected funds for Christian Aid in two ways. The offerings at their Sunday morning meetings amounted to £118 but Sunday Club also held a coffee morning on Saturday 26 April which raised £245 for Christian Aid. On the same day Sandy and Charlotte Smith, the Gray family and Faith Aitken crossed the Tay Bridge from Dundee to Fife and back. Their sponsor money amounted to £518.50. Quizaid, the new Christian Aid quiz, held on Friday 16 May at The Fountain in The Square raised £108.50. And, finally, Tea in the Wood held at Mais Steven’s house and garden, Mossford in Alma Avenue brought in £191 for Christian Aid which has been sent to Christian Aid’s own Burma Appeal. Tearfund gained a similar amount from Tea in the Wood for their Burma Appeal. A big ‘Thank You’ is due to all those, too many to name, who planned, took part, gave money and cleared up at all these events. The need is great – not only in emergencies like the cyclone in Burma and the earthquakes in China but also in long term reconstruction and development work. Christian Aid through its local partners is already working all over Africa, Asia, South and Central America. This money will enable Christian Aid to do even more. by Faith Aitken |
