Local Carers’ Therapies

The Princess Royal Trust Carers’ Centre Perth and Kinross in partnership with Aberfeldy Health Centre has held successful Carers Therapies at the Health Centre at the end of both April and May.

Therapists Sarah Renwick (Reiki), Tony Ellis (Indian Head Massage) and Alison Robb (Reflexology) were kept busy from 11am to 3pm and carers comments included feeling “looked after… someone caring for me”, “I feel more relaxed”, “as soon as you walk in – it’s tranquillity”, “It was just wonderful ”and “I feel this will be an asset to Aberfeldy”.

The therapy days have benefited from the support of the Aberfeldy and the Pitlochry Common Good Funds which has allowed carers to receive support free of charge.

Councillor Ken Lyall voiced his support for the service: “I would be happy to signpost carers to the therapies for support. Carers have a demanding role and the Common Good Fund Committees are pleased to help a very good initiative. I know first hand the difficulties carers face. My Mum would have benefited greatly from this if it had been around when she was caring for my Gran.”

Carer Support

An unpaid carer is someone who provides help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour who could not manage without their help due to age, frailty or disability. Trina Crichton, Support Worker, at The Princess Royal Trust Carers Centre explained: “The Therapy Days have been running successfully in Perth for 10 months and have given carers invaluable time to themselves while helping to relieve stress and tension.

“The therapy days also give carers a chance to socialise with and gain informal support from other carers, as well as providing opportunities to talk with a support worker about any issues that are causing them concern and I look forward to developing that service  further in Aberfeldy”

Another therapy day took  place on Wednesday 28 May in Aberfeldy Health Centre. The 30 minute sessions were appointment based and could be booked in advance, however carers were invited to drop in on the day for information and advice.

The Princess Royal Trust Carers Centre Perth & Kinross is part of the local charity Perth & Kinross Association of Voluntary Services and can be contacted at The Gateway, North Methven Street , Perth
