  Olympic Medallist Opens Kilgraston Pool

British Olympic Silver Medallist, Nick Gillingham MBE has officially opened the new 25m swimming pool complex at Kilgraston, Scotland’s leading independent boarding school for girls.
The opening ceremony formed part of the Perthshire school’s annual Family Fun and Open Afternoon and took place on the weekend of 10/11 May in front of pupils, parents, staff and members of the public.

Nick Gillingham, who was ranked number one in the world at breast stroke, has had a distinguished career, having set three World, ten European, nine Commonwealth and seventeen British records. At the Barcelona Olympic Games he was the only British swimmer to bring home a medal, adding to his silver in 1988.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kilgraston’s Chairman of Governors, Mr Tim Hall said “We are thrilled that Nick Gillingham was able to honour us by opening our fantastic new facility...it is important to offer a wide range of activities and our new pool will be a tremendous addition to our existing extensive programme available to both our boarding and day pupils.
“Not only will our girls be given the chance to swim competitively but there will also be plenty of opportunities for swimming lessons, training, water volleyball, aqua aerobics and swimming for leisure.”
For the past three years pupils have achieved some of the best academic results in the country and Kilgraston currently sits in the top three schools at Higher and Advanced Higher.
