Rotary Assists Chernobyl Victims

David Lee, President of Aberfeldy & District Rotary Club is seen here giving a cheque for £500 to Susan Young of Chernobyl Children’s Project (UK) towards the purchase of a hoist for the Mayflower Centre in Belarus (the country worst affected by the Chernobyl disaster of 1986).

The Centre provides respite care for physically and mentally disabled children. It is now accepting teenagers and young adults and this new hoist will make lifting them much easier for the staff. Sadly, it will also be used for children with hydrocephalus, (a condition untreated in Belarus) as their heads need extra support.

“The Rotary Club has provided assistance to the Mayflower Centre on several occasions and its support is invaluable.  Now, 22 years on, the need for help has never been greater,” said Susan.
