Youths' Memorial Walk for Councilllor

Last December the news of C’llr Eleanor Howie’s unexpected death was received by a majority of young people of Pitlochry, with great sadness. It was with this in mind that junior PYP & Skate-Park committee’s member Robbie Torrance came forward with the idea of having a memorial walk as the ypung people’s way of saying goodbye and thank you to the councillor.

On 24 February at 1.00pm the walk was well attended, with Eleanor’s husband Branislav Sudjic and her sister, Councillor Kate Howie, joining the day, our thoughts and love were with them.

The procession was led by the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band and it took place from the Millennium Clock in Atholl Road to the recreation ground. The young people displayed banners that had been made through the group with Eleanor’s name and all the project works that she supported. After the procession the group went to Drummonds Restaurant in Ferry Road, where kind proprietors Mags and Geordie Drummond had provided hot soup, sandwiches and light refreshments.
Speeches were delivered, one by Robbie Torrance, followed by music performed by a young group called 1 Minute Warning and guests (pictured below).

Thanks go to all the organisers, volunteers, marshals, drivers, performers, the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band and to all that attended at Drummond’s Restaurant, also to P&K Council for permission to stage the event.

Donations are now being accepted at Drummond’s restaurant or through the PYP, to have a memorial bench in respect of Eleanor Howie.
