Reconstitution of Aberfeldy Drama Club

At a recent meeting in the Old Church, Aberfeldy Drama Club has been formally reconstituted, and the Aberfeldy Community Arts Trust (ACAT) will now cease to exist.

Its functions and aims will be taken over by the Drama Club.  ACAT was originally set up to secure the funding for the acquiring of the Old Church.  This it has succeeded in doing, and many thanks go to the trustees of the Trust who have achieved this aim - in particular to acknowledge the efforts of Peter and Katherine McIntosh.  They had to deal with many unexpected difficulties on the way, especially with the sudden deaths of Allan Webster and Pat Zich.

Without the help of John Coaton, it is warmly acknowledged, the process would have been infinitely harder and he ably assisted the trustees through the legal minefields.  Gratitude is also expressed to all members of the local community who supported this project.

The Club performed the One Act Plays Five Green Waves from a story by George Mackay Brown, and A Kind of Alaska by Harold Pinter in the Town Hall on 28 and 29 March.  Good audiences came both nights and the entertainment was completed by Dull & District SWRI performing two short pieces from their competition A Poem, A Song and A Story.  They also provided their usual extremely high standard of refreshments at the interval.

Some £500 was raised from the two evenings to support the Club’s funds.

Open Meetings

The Club encourages new members to join it in whatever capacity they feel their strengths would lie.  To this end it aims to hold regular open meetings when anyone interested can attend and join in.

These meetings will be on the third Tuesday of each month, with the first one being on Tuesday 20 May in the Old Church at 7.30pm where ther will be some play readings.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend, or contact the Club Secretary, Sandra Batty, on 01887 820021 or email battysan@aol.com.
