Breadies' Joy/Gloom in Early June Perthshire Cup 1st Round Breadalbane vs Perth Northern. Wednesday 4 June Breadalbane eased into the next round of the Perthshire Cup but encountered a few nervous moments in their 1st round tie against a persistent Perth Northern. Batting first The Breadies lost the two key wickets of Chris Eyes and James Bax in the second over and were reduced to 2 for 7. Enter Mike Geddis making his debut for the club and life a misery for the Northern bowlers. In the space of 8 overs he had bludgeoned a brisk 40 out of a partnership of 65 with Kyle Hardy before being bowled by Dougie Gourlay's very last delivery. Hardy hit another very impressive knock of 54 not out, the Breadies finishing on a satisfying 150 for 4 from their 20 overs. The Perth side lost a wicket in the very first over and the Breadie' tails were up. The Northern boys were no,t however, going to allow their cup run to finish with a whimper and mounted a counter attack. With some calypso style batting Northern kept themselves in contention, sparing none of the Breadalbane bowlers. With 5 overs to go and wickets in hand Northern faced an asking rate of 10 runs an over, and proceeded to get them. A run chase of that proportion is always tough to maintain and Northern, after a brave effort, managed just 8 runs from the last two overs, failing in the end by just 12 runs. Breadalbane will be rewarded with another evening trek to either Glendelvine or Rossie Priory in the next round. Strathmore & Perthshire League Division 1 Breadalbane vs Forthill Sunday 8 June Victoria Park Aberfeldy Breadies stand-in skipper Mark Bridgeman may rue the day he invited Forthill to bat first leaving Breadalbane with a chase of 237 for victory. Wickets fell at regular intervals but they where all at the one end; at the other end Craig McConnachie made hay. He flailed the Breadalbane attack to all corners of Victoria Park until a sharp piece of work by Bridgeman behind the wickets stumped him for 99, one short of an impressive century, off the bowling of Mark Langhorn. Chris Eyes was the pick of the Breadie bowlers picking up 2 wickets for 20 runs. The Breadalbane innings started well with Kyle Hardy & Andrew Lawson putting on 58 for the first wicket. Lawson the first to go, misjudging a slower delivery from Finlay for 25. The Breadalbane batters found it hard to settle against an unremitting battery of slower bowlers. With only 96 on the board and over half the overs gone Julian Brunt laid down his fag and strode to the wicket. Five overs later he picked up his ciggy again, he was back in the pavilion but had 42 to his name and the Breadie total had raced along to 141 for 4. The Feldy men were back in the match. The bowling that Brunt had brutalised gained the upper hand again, as the run rate required rose, the wickets started fall. Breadalbane's chase had fallen 27 runs short and the Breadies sampled the bitter taste of defeat for the first time this year. by Tailender |
