Breadies' Mixed Fortunes at End of May

Breadalbane vs DHSFP’s
Strathmore & Perthshire Division 1
Victoria Park - Saturday 24 May

The record books where torn up at Victoria Park As Breadalbane powered their way to a 230 run victory over a luckless Dundee High School Former Pupils XI. The record victory margin was eclipsed however, by the club scoring a breathless 288 runs from their allotted 45 overs, another club record.
The foundation of the innings was laid down by the irrepressible Kyle Hardy who hit a marvellous 107. In a partnership with Andrew Lawson the pair piled on 147 for the 2nd wicket before Hardy was adjudged LBW. Lawson fell just short of his century, caught out for 91.
The Dundee High School Former Pupils had a mountain to climb and, when Chris Eyes skittled the opening bat in just the 2nd over, their fate was sealed. Eyes went on to take another wicket finishing on a tidy 2 for 19 from his 6 overs.
All the Breadalbane bowlers bowled tightly, the reconstructed, revitalised Mark Langhorn captured 3 for 11 whilst Brunt took 2 for 11.
The FP’s took an early bath as their innings closed in the 23rd over with just 58 on the board. Breadalbane showing this league may not be big enough to hold them.

Breadalbane vs Perthshire
3 Counties Cup 1st Round
The Inch, Perth - Tuesday 27 May

Losing the toss in a 20/20 match is like losing a limb. In a tight game with evenly matched sides it can be difference between victory & defeat and the Breadies, sadly, had called it wrong. The Perthshire openers swaggered to the crease and put the Highland Perthshire men to the sword. Perth’s innings galloped along at 9 an over until the Breadies wily skipper Mark Bowler brought himself and Jules Brunt on to bowl in a double change.
The torrent slowed to a trickle and wickets began to fall, Brunt returning the miserly figures of 16 for 1 from his 5 overs. The noose was tightened still further when the old swinger Dave Delph replaced Brunt taking 3 for 25. Perthshire finished on 129 for 6, including 3 stumpings by Breadalbanes doughty wicket Mark Bridgeman.
Breadalbane had chased down this total on many occasions and at the interval spirits where high in the Breadie camp.
Breadalbane progressed steadily but when prodigies Kyle Hardy and Laurence Bax where dismissed cheaply a few doubts crept in. James Bax and Chris Eyes steadied the innings posting 38 for the 4th wicket and regaining the initiative for the Feldy men. Eyes was caught for 23 in the 14th over, one of 5 excellent catches by the Perth men, in very gloomy light, that was to lead ultimately to them winning the tie. The Breadies never gave up hope, Bax Sr top scored with 26 as the Breadies fell just short by a margin of 15 runs finishing on 114 for 6.

Breadalbane vs Kinloch at St Andrews
Strathmore & Perthshire Division 1
Sunday 1 June

In contrast to the previous day the weather in St Andrews was bleak from the outset.
Breadalbane’s innings opened with a light rain falling that barely let up all day.
By the time the 41st over was due to commence the pitch had been churned into a muddy brown, rectangle and the captains called it a day.
That is not to say there weren’t some shining performances from the Breadalbane batsmen. Andrew Lawson hit a fine 56, Platts 34 and Skipper Mark Bowler a return to form with 29. Honours, however, go to veteran James Bax who punished the Kinloch attack for a brutal 64 in the space of just 14 overs.
Breadalbane finished on 203 for 5 with 5 overs still remaining. A useful day for some batting practice, if nothing else.
