Youth Football Flourishing in Highland Perthshire

Over 120 young footballers in Highland Perthshire have recently been given the opportunity to show off their skills in a series of football festivals run by Breadalbane/Strathtay Youth Football Club.

The mini tournaments have attracted teams from Aberfeldy, Kenmore, Pitlochry, Dunkeld, Glen Lyon and Blair Atholl, with competition being played out with a high degree of enthusiasm and no lack of skill.

Kenmore, however, appears to be the current hotbed of talent, as they took both the boys tournaments at P4/5 and P6/7 levels.  Pitlochry came out on top in the girls P4-7 tournament.

Players in the tournament were:

P4/P5 boys – Lachlan Menzies and Reece Hedley

P6/P7 boys – Garth Harrison and Joe Sturrock

P4-P7 Girls – Robyn Gallacher and Maddie Jennings

P2/P3 – Connor Summers, Jack Smith and Iain Dott

The football festivals are just part of Breadalbane Football Club’s ongoing commitment to developing youth football in the area, after having been awarded the SFA’s prestigious Community Club Award and being voted Scotland’s ‘Community Team of the Year’.

Next season will see a further expansion of the opportunities being offered to young footballers.  Boys’ sides will be running at U10, U11, U12, U14 and U16 levels and two new girls’ teams will play at U11 and U13 levels.  The girls will play their first ever match against Crieff on Sunday 15 June at Crieff at 11.30am.

With a new adult amateur side from Kenmore also being entered into the local league this season, it would appear that football in the local area is in a healthy state, with more and more opportunities being provided for young boys and girls at all levels.

The club is always on the lookout for willing volunteers to help in the running of the teams and any interested individuals should contact Gavin Price at 01887 820509
