COMMENT has been serving the whole of Highland Perthshiresince 1981. Among its news, reports, stories and pictures are pages containing advertisements and features, by or about local businesses, which carry the sort of information that consumers in the locality need to know. As an open-access publication, it is committed to supporting LOCAL culture, enterprise and endeavors, and it encourages folk to buy goods and services locally whenever possible. The monthly print version’s circulation varies between 1,400 & 1,600 (the summer and holiday editions peaking at the latter). This yields a regular monthly readership of over 4,500 in the Highland Perthshire marketplace. COMMENT also enjoys a long hand-on life, often going out of the area to distant relatives and friends. In addition it has a subscription circulation of 120 ‘ex-pat’ and second home owners in the UK and abroad. Because it is sold in shops (contributing directly to the local economy); Because each issue contains editorial copy from over 55 contributors, and Because people BUY IT and do not merely receive it unsolicited, its penetration of the 1,000 sq mile footprint is measurable - from Birnam to Rannoch and from Kirkmichael to Killin, including Pitlochry, Aberfeldy and Dunkeld. This is demonstrable by statistically sound readership survey and by regular sales records (in contrast to the unsupportable claims made by freesheets about their reach).
