“The Red Squirrel: A Disappearing Icon?”

A warm welcome is extended to all by P&K Red Squirrel Group to hear Tayside’s First Red Squirrel Project Officer, Ken Neil, speak on “The Red Squirrel: A Disappearing Icon?” at 7.00pm on Monday 12 May 2008 at the Birnam Institute.

Ken Neil formerly worked as a television producer but, after a return to university and a career change, he is now able to devote himself full time to his passion of saving the red squirrel from extinction in Scotland.

There are only three red squirrel project officers in Scotland, and Ken’s position is supported by the Forestry Commission Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, Tayside Biodiversity and O2 ‘It’s Your Community Fund’.  Although Ken has broadcast on radio and television and spoken to several groups, this is Ken’s first open meeting in Perth & Kinross of Red Squirrel Project Officer.  His talk is brimming with the latest information but he is very keen to hear people’s comments and observations on conserving the red squirrel to this area.  Any photographs and sightings of squirrels would also be appreciated.

Admission is free to the Open Meeting in the Birnam Institute’s Theatre.  Refreshments will be available at the Institute.  The Open Meeting is to be followed by a short AGM for members, which non-members are welcome to attend without speaking/voting rights.  Further details at www.perthkinrossredsquirrels.co.uk  or phone 01250 872710.
